Legendary Forward Signs with Trethomas Bluebirds

Michael Chopra, a renowned striker who played for Cardiff City, Newcastle, and Sunderland, has made a surprising comeback to the Welsh football scene after a four-year absence. Chopra’s illustrious career has taken him to various parts of the world, including Wales, England, Scotland, and even India, where he played for Kerala Blasters in two separate stints. The Newcastle-born forward has a remarkable track record, with 159 appearances and 63 goals to his name across four separate spells at Cardiff City. His most memorable moment came in a 2-1 home win against Swansea in the South Wales derby in April 2010.

In a candid interview, Chopra revealed that he was initially approached by Trethomas Bluebirds to serve as an ambassador for the club. However, the chairman’s suggestion to sign for the team proved too enticing to resist. ‘I was willing to be an ambassador for the club, after what the fans have done for me in the Cardiff area during my difficult times,’ Chopra explained. ‘I thought it would be good to give back to local communities and local football clubs.’

The veteran forward’s decision to revive his playing career in the Welsh second division has been met with enthusiasm from fans, who are eager to see him back on the pitch. ‘I believe you’ve got to earn the right to play, even though I’ve played at the highest level, I’m no different to the players they’ve got now,’ Chopra emphasized.

Chopra’s return to the Welsh football scene is not the only notable development in the domestic setup. Former Swansea striker Lee Trundle signed for Cwmbran Town in the third-tier earlier this month, marking a high-profile addition to the local football landscape.

As for Chopra’s future with Trethomas Bluebirds, the forward remains open to the possibility of playing in select matches, with the option to sit on the bench whenever necessary. ‘Once the fixtures come out, you can pick and choose which games you want me to play in, and it’s not a problem sitting on the bench,’ he said.

Chopra’s return to the Cardiff area has also sparked excitement among older fans, who now have the chance to bring their children to watch him play. ‘It is also great for some older Cardiff fans a chance to bring their kids to come and watch me play, because they never got to see the Michael Chopra who was playing for Cardiff because they weren’t around,’ he added.
