Seoul Mayor Oh Se-hoon’s Vision for a Brighter Future
Seoul Mayor Oh Se-hoon has begun his fifth term, making history as the first mayor in South Korea’s political history to achieve this milestone. In his inauguration ceremony held at Seoul City Hall, Mayor Oh delivered a powerful speech, outlining his vision for a brighter future for the city’s youth.
According to Mayor Oh, the younger generation is facing unprecedented challenges, including rapid job transformations, technological shifts, and high housing prices. He emphasized the need for the city to provide more opportunities for young people to learn and utilize artificial intelligence (AI) so that no one gets isolated from ongoing technological developments.
Mayor Oh’s five pledges for his fifth term include providing Seoul’s youth with education and housing. He vowed to ensure that every young citizen can learn and utilize AI, making Seoul a city where people can grow as much as they work and be recognized solely for their skills.
Some of the key initiatives outlined by Mayor Oh include:
- Supplying 310,000 newly built housing units by 2031
- Completing urban railway projects to open an era where a subway station is within a 10-minute walk of every home
- Creating a city where residents can find a place to exercise within a 10-minute walk from their homes
- Revitalizing local commercial districts by providing comprehensive support for small business owners
Mayor Oh’s vision for Seoul is to transform it into a global top-three city, where global citizens want to visit and where residents want to live for a lifetime. He emphasized that making Seoul a global top-three city is not just about raising its international ranking, but about creating a city that is desirable to live in.
Mayor Oh has previously served as the capital’s mayor from 2006 to 2011 and made a dramatic comeback by winning the 2021 mayoral by-election. He has vowed to work with the mindset that true achievements are only those felt by the citizens.
As Mayor Oh begins his fifth term, he is committed to making Seoul a city that is inclusive, innovative, and desirable to live in. His vision for a brighter future is a testament to his dedication to serving the citizens of Seoul.
