Nathan Ake’s Future in Question as Fenerbahce Claim Deal

Fenerbahce has made a shocking move in the transfer market, announcing that they have reached an agreement with Manchester City’s Nathan Ake. The Turkish club, who were runners-up in the SuperLig last year, claim that the Netherlands international has agreed a contract with them.

However, Manchester City’s view is that no move has been arranged, though they are in positive conversations with Fenerbahce and are hopeful they can settle on a £7m transfer, rising to £8.5m in add-ons. This deal is significant, as Ake is entering the last year of his contract with City, making this summer the last realistic chance to recoup a fee for him.

Ake joined Manchester City from Bournemouth in 2021 for £41m. Since then, he has made 177 appearances for the club, scoring 10 goals. He was a key player in the treble season of 2022-23 and the following campaign, but his appearances have decreased in recent seasons.

Last season, Ake made 32 appearances, but only started six Premier League games. He did, however, start the Carabao Cup final win over Arsenal. With Josko Gvardiol signing a new contract, Marc Guehi arriving in January, Abdukodir Khusanov improving, and Ruben Dias remaining at the Etihad Stadium, Ake faces being fifth-choice centre-back next year.

Fenerbahce’s statement reads: ‘Our club has reached an agreement with and signed a contract with Nathan Ake, a player for the Dutch national team. Ake, who has been playing in the 2026 FIFA World Cup, will join our team at the Austrian training camp after his leave of absence.’

Ake’s move to Fenerbahce would be a significant blow to Manchester City, who are looking to strengthen their squad ahead of the new season. The deal is still in its early stages, and it remains to be seen whether Ake will ultimately join Fenerbahce or remain at Manchester City.

The transfer window is always a time of uncertainty, and this deal is a prime example of the complexities and challenges that teams face when trying to sign new players. Manchester City will be hoping to resolve the situation soon, but for now, Ake’s future remains uncertain.
