Danganronpa 2×2 Delayed to Early 2027

Spike Chunsoft has announced that Danganronpa 2×2, the highly anticipated sequel to the 2012 classic Danganronpa 2: Goodbye Despair, has been delayed to early 2027. The studio behind the remaster confirmed that it will no longer meet its previously planned 2026 release schedule, leaving fans eagerly awaiting more information.

According to a statement published by producer Shohei Sakakibara, the studio is continuing to work on the game, aiming to bring the best possible experience to players. While the exact reasons for the delay are unclear, Sakakibara attempted to cushion the blow by sharing first details about a new story remix feature called Slayhem Mode.

A New Story Remix Feature: Slayhem Mode

In a bid to make the wait more bearable, Spike Chunsoft revealed that Slayhem Mode will feature a new version of the original 2012 experience, telling a ‘completely different storyline.’ This new mode will follow a new chain of events with ‘different victims, culprits, and tricks,’ and will boast approximately 20% more content than Danganronpa 2×2’s Original mode. Both story options will be available from the beginning of the game.

Additional Features and Updates

As part of the delay announcement, Spike Chunsoft also confirmed that Danganronpa 2×2 will come with a 3D world map instead of a side-scrolling map, providing a fresh and immersive experience for players. Character portraits have also been updated, offering a more detailed and realistic representation of the game’s characters.

Platforms and Release Window

Danganronpa 2×2 is still on track to release for PC, Nintendo Switch, Switch 2, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X | S. While the exact release date has not been confirmed, fans can expect the game to arrive in early 2027.

Spike Chunsoft’s decision to delay Danganronpa 2×2 may come as a disappointment to fans, but the studio’s commitment to delivering the best possible experience is reassuring. With the new story remix feature and additional updates, there’s still much to look forward to in this highly anticipated sequel.

Development Continues

While the wait for Danganronpa 2×2 may be extended, fans can take comfort in knowing that the studio is continuing to work tirelessly to bring the game to life. As development progresses, we can expect more updates and information to be shared, keeping fans engaged and excited for the eventual release.
