LEGO Brings E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial to Life with New Figure
The iconic alien from the beloved 1982 film E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial is set to become a part of the LEGO family, thanks to a new figure that’s roughly quarter life size. This latest addition to the LEGO Ideas range promises to bring a smile to the faces of fans young and old, with its movable appendages and a light-up chest that lets you make E.T.’s heart glow.
Key Features and Details
The new LEGO E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial figure (21370) will launch on August 1, priced at $139.99 / £119.99. The set contains an impressive 1,226 pieces, which will allow fans to build and customize their own E.T. model. The figure itself stands at 24cm in height, with a width of 21cm and a depth of 15cm, making it almost exactly quarter scale. This means that the model is roughly one-quarter the size of the real E.T., who stands at an impressive 1m tall.
One of the standout features of this figure is its poseability. Fans will be able to recreate E.T.’s iconic ‘phone home’ pose by moving the model’s head and hands. The set also includes a buildable pot plant of sunflowers, adding an extra touch of detail to the scene. And, of course, the light-up brick in E.T.’s chest will let you illuminate his heart in red, making for a truly magical effect.
The new LEGO E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial figure is the latest creation to come from the LEGO Ideas range, which features fan-submitted ideas for future sets. This range has become incredibly popular among LEGO fans, who get to vote on their favorite ideas and see them brought to life. It’s not the first time that LEGO has featured E.T. in one of its sets, however – the character was previously a minifigure in LEGO Dimensions.
The original E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial movie, directed by the legendary Stephen Spielberg, was a massive hit when it was released in 1982. The film starred Henry Thomas and Drew Barrymore, and has since become a beloved classic around the world. Despite various plans for a sequel, the film has remained a standalone classic, with a new generation of fans discovering its magic every year.
In 2019, Henry Thomas reunited with his E.T. puppet in a Christmas-themed short film called A Holiday Reunion. While this may not have been a full-fledged sequel, it was a heartwarming way for fans to see E.T. back on the big screen. And now, with the new LEGO E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial figure, fans will be able to bring the magic of E.T. into their own homes.
