Fathom Entertainment Appoints Seasoned Executive Jason Brenek as CEO

Specialty distributor Fathom Entertainment has made a significant move by appointing former Disney and Imax executive Jason Brenek as its new Chief Executive Officer (CEO). This appointment comes after the previously announced retirement of Ray Nutt, who had been instrumental in the company’s growth and success.

Fathom Entertainment has evolved from its roots as a Fathom Events company into a comprehensive distributor, offering a full-service specialty theatrical distribution service with major motion picture distribution capabilities. The company is poised to handle the wide theatrical release of Laika’s new stop-motion animated feature, Wildwood, on October 23. This move highlights the company’s commitment to expanding its capabilities and offerings in the entertainment industry.

Regal Chief Commercial Officer Adam Rymer has expressed his confidence in Jason Brenek’s leadership abilities, stating, ‘Jason is the right leader to build on Fathom’s remarkable foundation of success in theatrical distribution and take the company into its next era of growth.’ Rymer praised Brenek’s expertise in theatrical distribution, content, and event cinema production and marketing, as well as technology, and noted his deep understanding and appreciation of the company.

Jason Brenek brings a wealth of experience to his new role, having held senior executive positions across theatrical marketing and distribution, cinema technology, and global content production and releasing strategy. Most recently, he founded and ran MetaMedia, a cloud-based platform for delivering movies, live events, and premium content to cinemas. MetaMedia worked with prominent artists and content providers such as Garth Brooks, Coldplay, Metallica, ESPN, NCAA, and esports from Activision Blizzard and Epic Games. Prior to its acquisition by Qube Cinema in 2025, MetaMedia handled real-time, cloud-based content delivery to more than 600 cinemas across 30 leading exhibition chains worldwide.

Brenek’s extensive experience in the entertainment industry is a significant asset to Fathom Entertainment. Before MetaMedia, he was the EVP at Imax and president of Imax Home, which took elements of the company’s premium-format experience beyond theaters. He also spent over a decade in various senior executive roles at Disney, rising to SVP of worldwide digital cinema and cinema programming.

In his statement, Jason Brenek expressed his admiration for Fathom Entertainment’s achievements, stating, ‘There are very few companies in this industry that genuinely expand what the moviegoing experience can be. Fathom created the category of ‘event cinema,’ and I have admired what this team has built for well over a decade.’ Brenek acknowledged the company’s growth and success under Ray Nutt’s leadership, noting that Fathom has become a company with a devoted audience, a distinct identity, and a real and expanding role in the theatrical landscape.

Fathom Entertainment’s new CEO, Jason Brenek, is well-equipped to lead the company into its next phase of growth and success. With his extensive experience in the entertainment industry and his deep understanding of Fathom’s operations, he is poised to build on the company’s remarkable foundation of success in theatrical distribution.
