HBO Max’s ‘Hacks’ Sets New Comedy Series Record with 24 Emmy Nominations

HBO Max’s ‘Hacks’ has cemented its place in Emmy history with a record-breaking 24 nominations for its fifth and final season. This achievement surpasses the previous record of 23 nominations set by FX’s ‘The Bear’ in 2024 and matched in 2025 by Apple TV’s ‘The Studio’. The comedy series, starring Jean Smart, has been a consistent performer throughout its run, earning 15 nominations for Season 1, 17 for Season 2, 16 in Season 3, and 14 for Season 4.

The series’ impressive run has also led to a total of 12 wins, including one Outstanding Comedy Series Emmy and four Lead Actress in a Comedy Series statuettes for Smart, who is nominated again. ‘Hacks’ has been an Emmy darling from the start, unlike ‘Schitt’s Creek’, which was initially overlooked by Emmy voters for its first four seasons before exploding with 15 nominations in 2020.

The overall record for most nominated final season is held by HBO’s ‘Game of Thrones’, with 32 nominations. ‘Hacks’ is not the only departing series to receive nominations, as Netflix’s ‘Stranger Things’ and HBO’s ‘Euphoria’ have also been recognized for their final installments.

‘Stranger Things’, which made Netflix’s Top 10 most popular English series list, currently at No. 4, has added to its Emmy nomination haul with seven nominations for Season 5. The series has 12 wins to date, all in the Creative Arts Emmy categories. ‘Euphoria’ has nabbed seven Emmy nominations for its final season, bringing its total to 25 nominations, converting an impressive 36% of them into wins. The show scored an Outstanding Drama Series nomination in 2022 for its second season.

Prime Video’s ‘The Boys’ will also be looking to add more hardware for its fifth and final season with five nominations in crafts categories and stunts. While the superhero satire has been a modest Emmy performer with 12 previous nominations, including an Outstanding Drama Series nom in 2021, it also has a high nomination-to-win rate, converting 33% of its noms to date.

Other departing series, such as ‘The Bear’, will have their Emmy farewell next year. The FX comedy-drama released its fifth and final season but fell outside of the Emmy eligibility period, so it will compete at the 2027 awards; the nominations the show got today are for Season 4.
