Slate Auto Revolutionizes EV Customization with Crayola Partnership

Slate Auto, the innovative electric vehicle (EV) startup backed by Jeff Bezos, has made a name for itself in the automotive industry with its unique approach to simplicity and customization. The company’s business model revolves around offering a base, unpainted gray EV truck with an impressive 205 miles of range, priced at $24,950. This minimalist approach allows customers to personalize their vehicles to their hearts’ content through various customization options, including vehicle wraps, decals, lighting, and more.

The vehicle wraps, printed vinyl film that can be applied to a car, truck, or SUV without the need for painting, are a central component of Slate’s customization strategy. With hundreds of different colors and combinations available, customers can choose from a wide array of designs to make their vehicle truly one-of-a-kind. Building on this concept, Slate has now partnered with the renowned crayon maker, Crayola, to take customization to the next level.

As part of this exciting partnership, Slate is introducing five vehicle wraps featuring signature Crayola colors, including Cerulean, Fern, Jersey Tomato, Razzmatazz, and Dandelion. These vibrant colors will add a pop of personality to the already sleek and modern design of the EV truck. The Crayola-color vehicle wraps come at a price of $1,549.99, which is a small price to pay for the unique style and flair that these wraps bring to the vehicle.

But that’s not all – Slate is also including a matching Crayola key fob and ‘Slatelet,’ a custom art piece that snaps onto the dashboard, for customers who opt for a crayon-colored vehicle wrap. This thoughtful touch adds a touch of whimsy and personality to the vehicle’s interior, making it a truly special and one-of-a-kind ride.

This partnership marks a significant milestone for Crayola, as it is the company’s first foray into the automotive industry. According to Anna Roca, head of global partnerships at Crayola, ‘This is a first for Crayola, and we are thrilled to be a part of Slate’s innovative approach to customization.’ This collaboration not only brings a fresh perspective to the EV industry but also showcases the versatility and creativity of both Slate and Crayola.

While Slate has not disclosed whether it is working with other companies like Crayola to offer more vehicle wrap designs, a company spokesperson hinted at the possibility of future collaborations, stating, ‘We’re excited to welcome Makers, creators, and partners over time.’ Given Slate’s commitment to customization and innovation, it’s easy to imagine a slew of design collaborations in the future.

As a newcomer to the automotive industry, Slate has already made a significant impact with its unique approach to EVs. The company emerged from stealth in April 2025 and has yet to make its first deliveries. However, with the introduction of its base price of $24,950 and the start of preorders for the vehicle, Slate is making steady progress in the industry.

The EV truck, which can be modified into a five-seater SUV for a higher price, offers customers a range of options to suit their needs and preferences. With its focus on simplicity, customization, and innovation, Slate Auto is poised to make a lasting impact in the EV industry.
