25 Years of Music History: Jay-Z Celebrates ‘The Blueprint’ at Yankee Stadium
Jay-Z recently celebrated the 25th anniversary of his iconic album ‘The Blueprint’ at Yankee Stadium, marking a significant milestone in his illustrious career. The Brooklyn native treated fans to a 90-minute set, featuring high-profile guest appearances and a journey through the entirety of the album.
The show began with a nod to ‘The Ruler’s Back,’ featuring Slick Rick, and continued with a medley of songs that made up the spine of ‘The Blueprint.’ The setlist included instant classics like ‘U Don’t Know,’ ‘Hola’ Hovito,’ and ‘Song Cry,’ as well as the iconic ‘Renegade,’ which saw Jay-Z trade verses with Eminem.
The crowd was electric, and the energy was palpable as Jay-Z performed alongside Eminem, Pharrell Williams, and other special guests. The night was filled with stadium-sized highs, somber lows, and a highly assumed appearance from Eminem, who traded verses with Jay on ‘Renegade’ and reemerged to perform his signature hit ‘Lose Yourself.’
As Jay-Z wrapped up the show with ‘Blueprint (Momma Loves Me),’ he took a moment to reflect on the album’s release on September 11, 2001. ‘This album dropped on a real tragic time for New York City and I was prepared to walk away from this album obviously given everything that was going,’ he said. ‘And the way it resonated with the world, it was like part of healing for New York City and when the numbers came back for the first week, I was blown away by the support and the love and I was happy to hopefully provide some relief for such a tough time.’
The show finished with a medley of hits, including ‘Empire State of Mind,’ ‘N—s in Paris,’ and ‘Public Service Announcement.’ As Jay-Z bid farewell to the crowd, fans were left eagerly anticipating the next installment of his Yankee Stadium shows.
