A24’s ‘The Invite’ Expands Nationwide, Enters Top 6 at Domestic Box Office
A24’s ‘The Invite,’ directed by Olivia Wilde, has made a significant impact in its third week of release, expanding to a limited nationwide footprint of 1,610 locations, up from 28 screens in its initial release. This expansion has contributed to the film’s impressive box office performance, with the comedy grossing over $5.7 million in week three and a cumulative total of $7.38 million.
‘The Invite’ boasts an impressive 96% Certified Fresh rating on Rotten Tomatoes, along with an 88% audience score and excellent exit polls. The film, which features Olivia Wilde alongside Seth Rogen, Penélope Cruz, and Edward Norton, launched on seven screens on June 26, marking one of the top per-screen openings of the year.
According to solid audience recommendations, ‘The Invite’ has received a definite recommendation at 69%, 4.5 stars, and 89% positive reviews.
In other indie film news, Angel Studios’ ‘Young Washington’ ranked No. 5, while Focus Features’ ‘Obsession’ took the No. 7 spot. A24’s ‘Backrooms’ ranked No. 10 in the domestic box office rankings.
‘Obsession,’ which crossed the $250 million mark in its ninth week, has solidified its position as the fifth-highest-grossing horror film domestically of all time, according to Focus Features.

The film, directed by Eran Riklis and starring Goshifteh Farahani, Zar Amir, and Mina Kavani, represents a unique cultural collaboration between Israeli and Iranian artists.
