A Groundbreaking Drama Takes Shape in Peru

Peru is witnessing the birth of a monumental film and television project, Los Principiantes, which promises to captivate audiences worldwide. This eight-part Spanish-language drama, inspired by real events, delves into the lives of an elite law school cabal that infiltrates academia, politics, and organized crime in 1980s Lima, Peru.

According to the producers, the series explores the complex dynamics of ambition and power as they transform young men into formidable forces, set against the backdrop of corruption and social upheaval. The ambitious project is being designed as both an eight-part series for a streamer and a feature film.

The film’s release is scheduled for July 28, 2027, Peru’s Independence Day, via BF Distribution. Notably, a second season has already been written, indicating the creators’ confidence in the project’s potential.

A Star-Studded Cast

The large cast of Los Principiantes boasts an impressive roster of established Latin American actors, Peruvian talent, and a new generation of actors. Some of the veteran actors include Colombian Ana Maria Orozco and Christian Tappan, Mexican Flavio Medina, Argentinian Osmar Nunez, and Cuban-American Oscar Torre.

The young protagonists, on the other hand, are comprised of talented newcomers such as Mario Cortijo, Mathias Spitzer, Franco Pennano, José Miguel Argüelles, Guadalupe Farfán, Fabiana Valcárcel, and Yahir Manosalva. The casting process reportedly took two years, indicating the high standards set by the production team.

The show is co-created and written by Eduardo Carrillo and Eduardo Gutiérrez, with Peruvian filmmaker Daniel Vega at the helm as the director. Vega’s impressive credentials include winning the Jury Prize in Cannes’ Un Certain Regard section for his 2010 film, Octubre (October), and Best Actor at Locarno for his 2013 drama, El Mudo (The Mute).

A High-End Production

Los Principiantes boasts a substantial budget, sourced from both domestic and international investors, estimated at $1.8 million. This figure is significantly higher than the average budget for a Peruvian film or television project, underscoring the project’s ambition and scope.

La Soga Producciones, the local production company behind the project, has an impressive track record of producing high-quality content, including the recent war drama, El Corazón Del Lobo, which premiered at international film festivals such as Mar Del Plata and Malaga.

The first-look images from the shoot offer a glimpse into the production’s attention to detail and commitment to authenticity. With its star-studded cast, ambitious storyline, and high-end production values, Los Principiantes is poised to make a significant impact on the global entertainment landscape.
