Legendary Acting Coach John Kirby Passes Away at 75

John Kirby, an accomplished acting coach, and the brother of City Slickers star Bruno Kirby, has sadly left this world behind. He was 75 years young when he departed, leaving behind a legacy of exceptional work in the entertainment industry.

John’s journey with ALS began on July 7, 2023, when he was diagnosed after experiencing symptoms following a fall and a fractured hip the previous month. Despite his valiant efforts, the disease ultimately took its toll on his life, and he succumbed to it on the early morning hours of Wednesday, July 15.

Nathan Besbitt, a longtime associate and close friend of John’s, expressed his heartfelt condolences through a social media post on Kirby’s Instagram. ‘I am here to officially, with a broken heart, announce the passing of our beloved John on the early morning hours of Wednesday, July 15, and it has been devastating for all of us. And we’re trying to just find a way to cope,’ he shared.

As an acting coach, John Kirby had an impressive career, collaborating with numerous renowned actors and directors. His long-standing working relationship with Jim Caviezel, whom he coached in the 2000 film Frequency, is a testament to his dedication and expertise. Their collaboration in several films, including Pay It Forward, Angel Eyes, The Count of Monte Cristo, High Crimes, I Am David, The Final Cut, Bobby Jones: Stroke of Genius, and Unknown, showcases John’s ability to bring out the best in his actors.

John’s work extended far beyond his collaborations with Caviezel. He lent his talents to a wide range of films, including Peter Pan, The Chronicles of Narnia: The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe, Underdog, Outlander, Hotel California, Scream 4, Prom, and The Age of Adaline.
