Reijnders, a Netherlands international, joined Manchester City from AC Milan in the summer of 2025 for a reported £46 million. Despite his impressive debut against Wolverhampton Wanderers, he struggled to maintain a consistent spot in the starting XI under Pep Guardiola.

Last season, Reijnders had 14 goal involvements, but started only three of the final 12 games. His ability to contribute to the team’s goal-scoring efforts is undeniable, with seven goal contributions in 19 league starts.

However, his start to life at Manchester City has not gone as well as many had initially hoped. The Dutchman will be hoping for a new beginning under Maresca, who is assessing all options available to him as he takes the helm in the Manchester City dugout.

A Clean Slate for Reijnders

With a new season approaching, Reijnders will be hoping to become a regular in the side under Maresca. He impressed individually in the underwhelming World Cup campaign for the Netherlands, which saw Oranje exit in the round of 16 at the hands of Morocco.

Pete O’Rourke, transfer correspondent at FootballInsider, explained what Reijnders must do to secure his future in sky blue and silence the ongoing noise regarding his future.

“Reijnders has got a big pre-season ahead of him as he tries to impress the new Man City manager, Enzo Maresca. He started really well last season but then lost his place under Pep Guardiola,” he said.

“It’s a clean slate for him and everybody at City under Maresca, so Reijnders will be hoping that he can become a regular in the side. He had a decent World Cup for the Netherlands, so it doesn’t surprise me that other clubs are looking at him.”

Galatasaray and Juventus Eye Reijnders

The likes of Galatasaray, Juventus, and AC Milan have all been linked with Reijnders, with the Dutchman reportedly attracting interest from several top European clubs.

Reijnders’ struggles for regular first-team football have raised questions about his future in Manchester, but Maresca’s decision to give him a chance to prove himself could be the turning point in his Manchester City career.

Only time will tell if Reijnders can secure his future in Manchester, but one thing is certain – he will be given the opportunity to fight for his place under the new manager.
