Tom Holland Opens Up About The Odyssey and Robert Pattinson’s Casting

In a recent appearance on EW’s Around the Table, Tom Holland, the star of Christopher Nolan’s The Odyssey, revealed how he felt when he learned that Robert Pattinson was cast in the film. Holland plays the role of Telemachus, the son of Damon’s Odysseus, while Pattinson takes on the role of Antinous, one of the suitors hoping to marry Penelope (Anne Hathaway).

During the roundtable discussion with Entertainment Weekly, Holland shared that he felt a sense of relief after learning that Pattinson was cast in the film. He attributed this feeling to Pattinson’s exceptional acting skills, which he believes make him an excellent ‘dickhead.’

“Rob and I have made three movies together now, all very different,” Holland explained. “I’ve loved every minute of working with Rob, and I’ve always felt like I’ve left the set a better actor because he raises the stakes of every scene. What was really exciting for me, and also really daunting, was that we get to establish the stakes of the movie for Matt’s [Damon] journey right at the beginning. I felt the weight of that pressure.”

According to Holland, the friction between his character and Pattinson’s Antinous is crucial to the entire journey of the story. He was nervous about making sure that their interactions felt authentic and scary enough for his character to make the desperate decision to go on the journey.

Holland continued, “I knew when I found out that you were playing Antinous that I could relax because you’re so good at being a dickhead.”

The Odyssey also stars John Leguizamo, Zendaya, Benny Safdie, Charlize Theron, and many more. The film, directed by Christopher Nolan, has received critical acclaim for its epic storytelling and exceptional performances from its cast.
