Corn Prices Show Early Gains on Wednesday

Corn prices are trading with early gains of 6 to 7 cents on Wednesday morning, with spillover from double-digit gains in wheat providing support. The market found strength late in the session, with contracts up 2 to 3 ¼ cents across the front months.

According to the CmdtyView national average Cash Corn price, the price was up 3 ¼ cents at $4.21. This indicates a modest increase in new buying interest, with open interest rising 3,833 contracts.

Weekly Crop Progress Report Reveals Mixed Conditions

The weekly Crop Progress report showed condition ratings back down 1% at 67% in good to excellent condition. The Brugler500 index slipped 1 to at 372, indicating a decline in ratings in several key regions. The report revealed that ratings in North Dakota (-18%), South Dakota (-14%), Colorado (-23%), Wisconsin (-8%), Kansas (-7%), Missouri (-7%), and Minnesota (-5%) all took a dip in that week.

However, the report also noted that the I-States were improving, with Illinois up 3 and Indiana/ Iowa rising 5 points. Nebraska improved 4, and Ohio was up 1 point.

Rainfall Forecasts Provide Some Relief

The 7-day QPF from NOAA showed a band of 1 to 2 inches of rain in parts of Nebraska, Kansas, and Missouri, as well as Ohio in the next week. This provides some relief to the drier regions, which include the Dakotas, Minnesota, Wisconsin, Iowa, Illinois, and Indiana, where less than 0.5 inches of rain is expected.

South Korean Importers Make Large Corn Purchases

A couple of South Korean importers purchased a total of 142,000 to 208,000 metric tons of corn in separate tenders overnight. This significant purchase could have a positive impact on the market, as it indicates strong demand for corn.

Corn Prices Close at Multi-Week Highs

Corn prices closed at multi-week highs on Tuesday, with the Sep 26 Corn contract closing at $4.52 3/4, up 3 1/4 cents. The nearby Cash price was $4.21, up 3 1/4 cents, and the Dec 26 Corn contract closed at $4.75 1/4, up 2 1/4 cents.

The Mar 27 Corn contract closed at $4.91, up 2 1/2 cents, and the New Crop Cash price was $4.25 3/4, up 3 3/4 cents. These prices indicate a strong upward trend in corn prices.
