Arizona Cardinals Secure Starting Quarterback with Jacoby Brissett Deal
The Arizona Cardinals have secured their starting quarterback for the upcoming season. According to a recent report, the team and veteran quarterback Jacoby Brissett have agreed on a one-year deal worth $15.5 million guaranteed, with the potential to increase to $21 million with incentives.
This new deal is a significant jump from Brissett’s base salary of $4.88 million for the current season, which was the second year of a two-year contract with the Cardinals. Despite the increased compensation, the deal does not add any years to Brissett’s contract, meaning he will still become an unrestricted free agent after the 2026 season.
Jacoby Brissett’s NFL Career and Experience
Jacoby Brissett, who joined the Cardinals in 2025, has had a storied career in the NFL. The 33-year-old quarterback has played for six teams, including the New England Patriots, Indianapolis Colts, Miami Dolphins, Cleveland Browns, Washington Commanders, and New England Patriots (again) in 2024. He was drafted by the Patriots at No. 91 overall in 2016.
Brissett has also had his fair share of success on the field, including holding the NFL record for the most completions in a regular-season game with 47, which he achieved in 2025 while playing for the Cardinals.
Despite the challenges he faced in his previous season, Brissett demonstrated his resilience and determination. He started 12 out of 14 games, going 1-11 in those starts, and finished the season with 3,366 passing yards, 23 touchdowns, and eight interceptions.
With the departure of Kyler Murray, the 2019 No. 1 overall pick, Brissett is set to take on the role of the team’s starting quarterback heading into Week 1. The Cardinals also have Gardner Minshew and Carson Beck in the quarterback room, providing a solid backup for the upcoming season.
Coach Mike LaFleur’s Thoughts on Brissett
Cardinals coach Mike LaFleur expressed his confidence in Brissett’s understanding of the offense, despite missing some time with the team. LaFleur praised Brissett’s intelligence and experience, stating, ‘He’s a smart dude, he’s played a lot of football. It’s learning a whole different language. I’m not going to put any kind of (timeline) on that. … I like where he’s at from a learning standpoint.’
LaFleur’s comments highlight the team’s optimism about Brissett’s performance in the upcoming season. With Brissett at the helm, the Cardinals are looking to bounce back from their 3-14 record last season and make a strong comeback in the 2026 season.
