True Colours Boards Venice-Bound Female Sniper Drama ‘No Paradise If You Are Killed By A Woman’

Rome-based sales company True Colours has announced its collaboration with Norwegian-Kurdish director Halkawt Mustafa’s drama ‘No Paradise If You Are Killed by a Woman’, set to premiere Out of Competition at the Venice Film Festival in September.

The film tells the story of a female Peshmerga sniper, played by Avan Jamal, who embarks on a perilous journey to Mosul to rescue her younger sister from the clutches of ISIS. Along the way, she confronts the trauma she endured and the darkness that has consumed her. The cast also features Thorbjørn Harr, Kanar Sarchl, and Kader Jalal.

Mustafa, who wrote, directed, and produced the film, drew inspiration from years of conversations with real Kurdish women who fought against ISIS. The film is a powerful tribute to their bravery and resilience.

The film is a follow-up to Mustafa’s documentary ‘Hiding Saddam Hussein’, which explored the story of the farmer who hid the Iraqi dictator for 235 days in 2003. It also draws inspiration from Iraq’s 2016 Oscar submission ‘The Classic’.

Mustafa’s previous documentary, ‘The Women ISIS Fears’, delved into the world of female Kurdish fighters, shedding light on their struggles and sacrifices.
