The Elder Scrolls Online (ESO) has been making waves in the gaming community, with recent news shedding light on the game’s future amidst the ongoing Xbox restructuring and layoffs. In a recent blog post, game director Nick Giacomini addressed the concerns of fans and clarified the team’s plans for the beloved MMORPG.

ESO’s Future Secured

Giacomini’s blog post aimed to put fans’ minds at ease, stating that ESO is here to stay and that the team remains dedicated to the game’s future. The director emphasized that the team’s focus remains on continuing to grow and improve The Elder Scrolls Online, building upon the rich world that millions of players call home.

Despite the recent changes at Xbox-owned studios, the team behind ESO is committed to delivering high-quality content to its dedicated player base. Giacomini acknowledged the team’s efforts to ensure that upcoming additions meet the expected standards, stating, ‘Instead of rushing to hit a previously announced deadline, we are giving our teams the runway they need to do things right.’

Content Delayed to 2027

Regrettably, the restructuring efforts have led to a delay in some of the game’s highly anticipated content. The new Crimson Veldt trial, class and combat refreshes, and update 52 have been pushed back to 2027. Giacomini explained that the team wants to ensure that these complex additions meet the mark before releasing them to the public.

However, fans of ESO can look forward to an exciting 2026. New stories, quests, and events are scheduled to arrive throughout the fall, accompanied by a new rumor system and quality of life upgrades. These updates will roll out across September and October as part of Season 1 and Season 2.

Collaboration with Bethesda Game Studios

The team behind ESO is also working closely with Bethesda Game Studios on the future of the IP. This collaboration will provide new opportunities for the team to share ideas and create better experiences for players. The partnership is expected to yield exciting results, especially considering the highly anticipated release of The Elder Scrolls 6.

Bethesda is also continuing to support its other major IP, Fallout. Remasters of Fallout 3 and New Vegas are in the works, along with a new Fallout game from Obsidian Entertainment. The studio has even entered pre-production on Fallout 5, ensuring a smooth transition after the completion of The Elder Scrolls 6.
