Actor Geno Segers Breaks Silence After Being Fired From Broadway’s ‘Hadestown’

Geno Segers, an actor who was recently fired from the Broadway production of ‘Hadestown’ following backlash over resurfaced transgender comments, has finally broken his silence and issued a heartfelt apology.

In a statement shared on Instagram, Segers expressed his deepest apologies to everyone impacted by his words, acknowledging that the impact of his statements is what matters most.

While Segers claims he never intended to inflict harm, he recognizes that his words have caused significant distress and stress to the cast, creative team, and producers of ‘Hadestown.’

‘I am fully committed to listening, educating myself, and elevating my standards,’ Segers said. ‘I will work tirelessly to earn the opportunity to make things right.’

Segers also apologized to the cast, creative team, and producers of ‘Hadestown’ for the stress his actions have brought to the production, stating that he accepts full responsibility for his words and acknowledges the necessity of immediate accountability.

Hadestown had announced Segers as part of the new cast of the Broadway show in the role of Hades, alongside Amber Iman, Jasmin Savoy Brown, and Norbert Leo Butz. However, shortly after the announcement, past videos resurfaced on theater blogs where the actor expressed anti-trans sentiments around pronouns and trans athletes in women’s sports.

Amid the backlash, the Hadestown producers took swift action and parted ways with Segers, stating in a statement that the producers and Segers had mutually agreed that he would no longer join the Broadway production.
