Unlock Developer Mode

By tapping the Zepp logo seven times in a row on your watch, you can unlock developer mode, granting you access to device information that’s normally hidden. This feature is particularly useful for troubleshooting sync issues or satisfying your curiosity about the watch’s inner workings. Developer mode also allows you to install custom watch faces, eliminating the need to rely on the existing native library. To upload a custom face, scan a generated QR code and install it directly onto your watch.

Log Voice Memos Mid-Workout

The Balance 3’s voice assistant is a feature that’s easy to overlook, but it’s incredibly useful for capturing quick voice notes during a workout. This can be particularly helpful for logging thoughts between sets or recording how a specific set felt in a specific moment. To use the voice assistant mid-workout, simply press and hold the top button, and wait for the listening screen to appear before speaking. Your transcribed thoughts will be available under the ‘Workout Notes’ section after syncing your device with the Zepp App.

But that’s not all – you can also stack multiple commands into a single Zepp Flow request. This means you can start a workout and set a goal or reminder in a single sentence. For example, you can tell the watch to start an outdoor run and set a 5-mile goal at the same time. This way, you can walk out the door, hold the crown, say one compound sentence with multiple commands, and be fully set up without touching the touchscreen at all.

Conserve Battery Life

To save battery life, you can personalize your notifications beyond all-or-nothing enabling/disabling. This allows critical alarms or low-battery warnings to still function even when everything else is muted. For example, you can turn off ‘Allow notifications’ for calendar-related reminders. Before a workout, disable all notifications and enable only the handful of apps you actually care about, such as text messages.

Additionally, you can reduce data collection by dialing back features like heart rate measurement frequency, automatic stress monitoring, and auto blood oxygen tracking. These quick settings changes will help stop your watch from unnecessarily draining battery in the background, without sacrificing much in terms of data.

Fix Accidental Workout Pauses

One common issue with the Amazfit Balance 3 is accidental workout pauses caused by bumping the crown. To fix this, head into Workout Settings and switch the pause mechanism from a ‘simple press’ to ‘Long Press.’ This may take some getting used to when you do want to pause, but it’s a small price to pay for avoiding unwanted pauses.

Improve GPS Connection

Living in a densely populated city can make it challenging to establish a proper GPS connection. To improve your chances of a faster connection, change the GPS accuracy settings from power-saving to Balanced or Accuracy mode. Then, before every workout, open the Zepp App and pull down on the home screen to force a manual sync with your watch. This pushes the newest satellite orbital data to the watch. After your workout, head back into those GPS settings and switch away from accuracy and back to power-saving.
