‘Minions & Monsters’ Translates Abroad with Near $160M WW Cume; ‘Toy Story 5’ Giddy Ups to $764M WW – Box Office Update

Universal’s Minions & Monsters has seen its global box office numbers surge, thanks in large part to a strong performance in international markets. The film, directed by Pierre Coffin, has grossed an estimated $85 million in its second weekend, with a global cume of $159.8 million. This is despite a relatively modest $61.4 million opening in the United States, which is the lowest start ever for a Despicable Me/Minions franchise film.

The film’s success in international markets is particularly noteworthy, with a $146.4 million global weekend across 72 territories. The film’s strong performance in these markets has helped to offset its relatively weak performance in the United States, where it faces stiff competition from Disney’s live-action Moana.

According to Universal domestic distribution boss Jim Orr,
