After a two-year wait, Siri AI is finally available to beta testers, and I’ve had the opportunity to try it out on my iPhone 16 Pro. Siri AI’s Integration Advantage
One of the key features of Siri AI is its seamless integration with Spotlight. With a new gesture that breaks almost 20 years of iPhone muscle memory, users can now swipe down from the center of the top of the screen to activate the ‘Search or Ask’ field. This feature is a significant improvement over Gemini, which doesn’t have a direct integration with Spotlight.

Another advantage of Siri AI is its ability to pull in data from supported apps. When I asked Siri to bring up all reminders due today, calendar events of the week, or new emails from a sender, it performed well. The Mail app, however, had some limitations, particularly when compared to Gemini’s Gmail integration.

Siri AI’s Direct Approach
One of the standout features of Siri AI is its ability to provide direct and to-the-point answers. Unlike Gemini, which can be verbose at times, Siri AI gets straight to the point. I found that Siri AI was often faster than Gemini and provided more accurate responses to general-knowledge questions and web research queries.
The new Siri animation is also a significant improvement, providing a visually appealing interface that makes it easy to interact with the AI. Users can swipe down from the floating window to expand the answer and open the Siri AI app itself.
Gemini’s Research Capabilities
While Siri AI excels in providing direct answers, Gemini is still the better choice for in-depth research. Gemini’s Pro models can excel at tasks like finding and collating information and guides based on Google searches. I asked both Siri and Gemini to help me find a laptop for my wife’s dental practice, and Gemini provided more tailored options, including pricing and links.
Gemini also performed better in providing detailed breakdowns and example images. When I asked Siri and Gemini to give me some hamstring stretches to perform after a workout, Siri provided some web images, while Gemini provided a detailed breakdown, along with example images.
The Verdict
As it stands, Gemini is still the more complete package in my view. While Siri AI excels in providing direct answers and integrating with Apple apps, Gemini offers a wider range of features and capabilities. However, Siri AI is still in beta testing, and it’s possible that Apple may add some of Gemini’s features in the future.
