Emmy Winner Barry Pepper Joins Jeremy Strong in Paramount+’s ‘9/12’
Paramount+ has secured another exciting talent for its upcoming six-episode limited series, ‘9/12.’ Emmy winner Barry Pepper is set to star alongside fellow Emmy winner Jeremy Strong in this gripping drama about ailing 9/11 first responders’ David vs. Goliath legal fight for compensation.
Written and directed by Tobias Lindholm, ‘9/12’ dramatizes a landmark case that reshaped the fight for accountability: a relentless legal war that stretched nearly a decade to secure almost $1 billion in compensation for first responders who fell gravely ill in the wake of 9/11.
The series, which is also written by Frank Pugliese, takes a closer look at the real-life case of a group of 9/11 first responders who risked everything to expose the politics, greed, corruption, and betrayal that compounded tragedy set against the emergency workers’ remarkable unity and bravery as The World Trade Center was collapsing.
Barry Pepper will play Coach, a former NYPD police officer and 9/11 first responder suffering from leukemia, a result of his work at ground zero. He is reluctant to sue the city but is convinced to become the face of the lawsuit in order to help other victims.
As previously announced, Jeremy Strong will star as renowned class action lawyer Jason Smith, who risked everything to take on entrenched institutions. Both Smith and Coach are composite fictional characters inspired by real-life people.
From Paramount Television Studios and Sister, ‘9/12’ is executive produced by Strong, Lindholm, and Pugliese. This exciting collaboration is sure to bring a powerful and thought-provoking story to the small screen.
