Prime Video is gearing up to return to the enchanting world of Beechwood Island with the highly anticipated second season of its YA series adaptation ‘We Were Liars.’

The first season, which dropped in the summer of 2025, received a Season 2 renewal in September of the same year, and fans have been eagerly waiting for updates on the upcoming installment.

Based on E. Lockhart’s novel of the same name, the show has already captured the hearts of audiences worldwide, and with its captivating storyline and talented cast, it’s no wonder that fans are eagerly anticipating the next season.

So, what can we expect from Season 2 of ‘We Were Liars?’ In a recent update, Prime Video posted a photo of Joseph Zada and Emily Alyn Lind posing in a shot, confirming that the show is indeed in production. Co-creator Carina Adly Mackenzie had been teasing camera tests and location scouting before this, and fans have been buzzing with excitement ever since.

According to the latest reports, Season 2 will draw from Lockhart’s prequel novel, ‘Family of Liars,’ which focuses on the three Sinclair sisters who are aunts and mothers to the titular liars in Lockhart’s original novel. Emily Alyn Lind’s Cadence Sinclair, who narrates the book ‘We Were Liars’ and the first season of the show, will be back at the island off the East Coast as well.

‘As she digs deeper into family secrets, she learns about the Sinclair Sisters’ summer of 1999 — a summer rife with first love, rivalry, and even murder,’ the logline reads. ‘In flashbacks, we see Carrie (Lapaine), Penny (Roorbach), and Bess (Wolfe) navigate their own teenage summer, as they come to terms with their past in the present day.’

Joseph Zada, who will soon be seen as a younger version of Haymitch Abernathy in ‘The Hunger Games: Sunrise on the Reaping,’ will return to reprise his role of Johnny Sinclair, whose ghost haunts his mother, Carrie (Mammie Gummer) in a coda scene in the first season and provides a way into her past.

Dempsey Bryk, who plays a character new for the show, Ebon, has been upped to a series regular for Season 2. Described as a rough-around-the-edges Boston guy who spends his summers among the blue-blooded elite, captaining a charter boat for senators and celebrities, Ebon will be back on Martha’s Vineyard after losing his love interest Mirren (Esther McGregor) last summer.

‘He’s got a fresh chip on his shoulder and absolutely no interest in being pulled into rich people’s sordid secrets — but it’s hard to avoid in these murky waters,’ his character description and logline read.

The cast for Season 2 has been expanding, with several new additions joining the show. Josh Dallas (Manifest) will play Young Harris, Peyton List (The Rookie) will play Young Tipper, and Madison Wolfe (True Detective) will play Young Bess. Elysia Roorbach will play Young Penny, and Parker Lapaine will play Young Carrie. Costa D’Angelo (Tell Me Lies) will portray Pfeff, who comes from ‘Family of Liars.’

Co-showrunners Julie Plec and Carina Adly MacKenzie are writing and executive producing Season 2, alongside Emily Cummins for My So-Called Company, Brett Matthews, Marguerite MacIntyre, and the novel’s author, E. Lockhart. Universal Television, a division of Universal Studio Group, and Amazon MGM Studios are behind the project.

With the cast and crew working tirelessly to bring this exciting new chapter to life, fans can expect an even more captivating and suspenseful ride with Season 2 of ‘We Were Liars.’
