Cyberpunk 2077 is experiencing a resurgence in popularity, with impressive player numbers on Steam fueled by a recent sale and hype for the upcoming Netflix anime Cyberpunk: Edgerunners 2. The game’s collaboration with Wuthering Waves has also contributed to its renewed interest, despite being a known quantity at this point. CD Projekt has told fans not to expect any more DLC, but fans are calling on the developer to change its mind and release more content, just like The Witcher 3 is getting.
Earlier this month, CD Projekt confirmed that Cyberpunk 2077 had sold an incredible 40 million copies since its December 2020 launch, up 5 million from November 2025. The game has received one expansion so far, 2023’s Phantom Liberty starring Idris Elba. In May, CD Projekt insisted it had ‘no plans’ for further Cyberpunk 2077 DLCs or expansions, disappointing fans who were still clamouring for more content despite the age of the game.
It suggests fans will have to wait for Cyberpunk 2 to return to CD Projekt’s much-loved dystopian universe. And the wait looks like it’s going to be significant; Cyberpunk 2 is further behind The Witcher 4, and CD Projekt co-CEO Micha┼‚ Nowakowski has suggested Cyberpunk 2 won’t be out until at least 2030. On July 5, Cyberpunk 2077’s Steam peak concurrent player count surpassed 100,000, the highest it’s been since 2023.
Pawe┼‚ Sasko, associate game director on Cyberpunk 2, tweeted in response, ‘Have fun my dears, hope it’s going to keep you hooked, entertained, and inspired.’ With this new player surge, fans are calling on CD Projekt to release new content. ‘Yeah, we are gonna need that second DLC CDPR!’ reads the title of a reddit thread with 12,000 upvotes.
‘Honestly, they need some money so give us a dlc so we could give you more money!’ one fan joked. ‘I would die if this game got another DLC (after I play it of course),’ another added. ‘This is one of my favorite games of all time, it’s also one of the saddest cases of cut content from a game which is exactly why I want them to add more stuff.
‘I’ve never spent as much time in any game looking around outside the map, and searching up cut content to see what this game was supposed to be. I don’t even know what the DLC would be about but damn it do I want another more than any other game right now.’ Another fan pointed out the disparity between The Witcher 3 and Cyberpunk 2077, saying, ‘It’s a slap in the face The Witcher 3 is getting another DLC. To any Witcher fans reading I don’t hate the game for it but bro why is an 11-year old game with heaps of DLC still getting new shit and the newer title isn’t?’
I’m just wrapping up my first playthrough. 100%ing it at around 220 hours. It’s incredible. A new DLC would wreck my plans to move onto my backlog, but I’d f***ing take it in a second lol,’ another fan said. Some suspect CD Projekt will indeed release new Cyberpunk 2077 DLC eventually, as it has done with The Witcher 3, but closer to the release of a new Cyberpunk game.
For now, CD Projekt’s official line is no new Cyberpunk 2077 DLC is in the works. But there was no new The Witcher 3 DLC in the works for years before it was confirmed, so you never know. CD Projekt Red’s track record suggests that they may change their mind and release new DLC in the future, especially if the player base continues to grow and show interest in the game.
CD Projekt Red has a history of surprising fans with new content, and it’s possible that they may have some tricks up their sleeve. The company has a reputation for listening to fan feedback and responding to player demand, so it’s not impossible that they may release new DLC in the future.
Only time will tell if CD Projekt will change its mind and release new DLC for Cyberpunk 2077. But one thing is certain – the game’s player base is still very much engaged, and fans are eagerly awaiting any new developments. Whether or not new DLC is released, it’s clear that Cyberpunk 2077 is a game that has captured the hearts of many players, and its legacy will live on for years to come.
