Peter Van Norden: A Legacy of Comedy and Drama

Peter Van Norden, the talented actor known for his memorable roles in Police Academy 2: Their First Assignment and The Naked Gun 2½: The Smell of Fear, has left us at the age of 75.

According to TMZ, Van Norden passed away peacefully in a Southern California hospice facility on Thursday morning, surrounded by his loving wife Wendy. The actor had been battling multiple health conditions in the final years of his life.

Van Norden’s journey in the entertainment industry began in the 1970s, when he moved to Los Angeles after graduating magna cum laude from Colgate University in Upstate New York. He made his on-screen debut in the 1979 comedy Squeeze Play!, directed by Lloyd Kaufman.

Throughout his illustrious career, Van Norden appeared in a diverse range of films, including Waitress! (1981), a comedy co-starring Troma Entertainment founder Lloyd Kaufman, and Hard to Hold (1984), a drama that showcased his versatility as an actor. He also played notable roles in Roadhouse 66 (1984), The Accused (1988), and Gigli (2003).

Breaking into the Police Academy Franchise

In 1985, Van Norden joined the iconic Police Academy franchise with the second installment, Police Academy 2: Their First Assignment, where he played the memorable role of Officer Vinnie Schtulman. This marked a significant milestone in his career, cementing his place in the hearts of comedy fans worldwide.

Van Norden’s portrayal of George H.W. Bush’s chief of staff, John H. Sununu, in The Naked Gun 2½ (1991) remains an unforgettable moment in the film. His ability to bring depth and nuance to his characters left an indelible mark on the entertainment industry.
