Breaking News: Trump’s Primetime Address Aired on Sinclair-Owned Stations

In a shocking turn of events, ABC and NBC stations owned by Sinclair Broadcasting aired President Donald Trump’s primetime speech on Thursday evening, despite earlier announcements by ABC News and NBC News that they would only carry the address on their streaming sites.

The address, which began at 9 p.m. ET/6 p.m. PT and lasted approximately 25 minutes, centered on Trump’s claims regarding elections, China obtaining voter registration data, and the ‘deep state’ withholding intelligence from him.

As expected, the remarks sparked controversy, with Trump calling out ABC and NBC for not airing the speech on their linear networks. He claimed, without evidence, that they and other media outlets ‘want to continue this fraud for whatever reason’ and ‘want to keep it going.’

Trump also emphasized the importance of free and fair elections, stating that ‘you can’t have a great country without honesty in our elections and honesty in reporting.’ He went on to claim that ABC and NBC should lose their broadcast licenses for not airing the speech, citing the fact that they use public airwaves for free.

Notably, Sinclair has the right to preempt networks on their stations, as they did when they refused to air Jimmy Kimmel Live! last fall after Kimmel made remarks about the death of Charlie Kirk during a monologue. ABC subsequently suspended Kimmel and production on the show for a week before reinstating him.

Sinclair operates and/or provides services to 177 TV stations in 79 markets, according to their website. It’s worth noting that Fox and CBS also carried the speech, although CBS Evening News anchor Tony Dokoupil preceded the address by telling viewers that ‘much of what the president has said on this topic is false.’

Trump’s address and the subsequent controversy surrounding it have left many questioning the role of media outlets in reporting on the president’s claims and the importance of fact-checking in today’s news landscape.

As the situation continues to unfold, one thing is clear: the relationship between the president and the media will remain a contentious issue for the foreseeable future.
