Revolutionizing Writing with the reMarkable Paper Pure

For years, reMarkable has been on a mission to help individuals disconnect from screens and experience the joy of writing with pen and paper. The company’s latest device, the reMarkable Paper Pure, continues this trend by offering a distraction-free writing experience that’s perfect for writers, designers, and researchers.

As a reviewer, I typically write notes in various formats across different apps and devices. However, I thought it fitting to write this review on the reMarkable Paper Pure itself, using its handwriting conversion feature and editing it on WordPress.

The reMarkable Paper Pure is the successor to the reMarkable 2, released six years ago, and is priced at $399. This new device goes back to basics with a monochrome display in notebook size, featuring a 10.3-inch screen, the same size as the reMarkable 2. However, the company has flipped the resolution to make the display both wider and shorter, allowing more text to fit on the horizontal line when reading and writing.

The writing experience on the reMarkable Paper Pure is crisper compared to its predecessor, the reMarkable 2. Apart from the hardware revamp, the company has included software features that make it easier to access content outside of the tablet. One notable improvement is the enhanced handwriting search, which now allows users to search across notes.

Another exciting feature is the ability to sync your calendar to the tablet, allowing you to access meeting details from the calendar icon on the device and start taking notes within that particular meeting block. When you’re done, you can convert handwritten notes and share them with one tap, receiving a link in your email to access and share these notes with others.

The reMarkable Paper Pure also offers improved performance when working with different documents. Users can easily integrate Drive, Dropbox, or OneDrive to import and export documents, which are imported as a notebook where you can work on them. However, the device still doesn’t handle PDFs in an ideal way, with edges being cut off when importing documents.

One thing to note is that reMarkable’s positioning is clear: the Paper Pure is largely a work device for note-taking, sketching ideas, and reading articles or documents. It won’t act as an all-in-one gadget for both reading books and taking notes.

At $399, the device is not cheap. However, the core promise of distraction-free writing works, and I’ve become comfortable carrying the reMarkable Paper Pure to jot down ideas or start rough drafts. The device comes bundled with a stylus, and a $449 bundle includes a Marker Plus stylus with an eraser function, along with a sleeve folio in various colors.

Overall, the reMarkable Paper Pure offers a unique writing experience that’s perfect for those looking to disconnect from screens and focus on their work. With its improved performance, enhanced features, and distraction-free design, this device is a great option for writers, designers, and researchers.
