Actress Michaela Watkins (Hacks) is set to star in Jessica Sanders’ highly anticipated improvised indie comedy, ‘I Want to Feel Fun.’ The film, which has wrapped up production, marks Sanders’ first narrative feature. This exciting new project blends professional actors with everyday people, creating a unique and captivating on-screen experience.
Based on Sanders’ short film of the same name, which premiered at the Tribeca Festival last year, ‘I Want to Feel Fun’ is an entirely improvised comedy that weaves together intersecting stories of love and connection. The film takes viewers on an unexpected, emotional adventure across Los Angeles’ diverse neighborhoods, ultimately becoming a love letter to the city.
Sanders, known for her documentary work, including the critically acclaimed ‘After Innocence,’ which won the Sundance Special Jury Prize, and ‘Sing!, which earned her an Oscar nomination, brings her unique storytelling style to this narrative feature. With ‘I Want to Feel Fun,’ she has created a film that is both deeply human and completely alive in the moment.
Other talented actors joining Watkins in this project include Avi Rothman, Lilah Pate, Vivian Bang, Dave Merheje, Kiran Deol, Zainne Saleh, Finn Harry, Andrew Key, and Gene Kang. The cast’s diverse range of experience and backgrounds adds to the film’s authenticity and charm.
Executive producers on the project include Mary Pat Bentel, David Katznelson, and Noam Dromi via Reboot Studios, as well as Joe Plummer and Stacey Reiss via Wavelength. Alyssa Schroeter and Roland Kassis co-executive produce via Brevity Films, with Caitlin Cleary serving as co-producer.
Reboot Studios’ Managing Director, Noam Dromi, praises Sanders’ ability to create work that feels both deeply human and completely alive in the moment. ‘I Want to Feel Fun’ captures that instinct in a way that feels fresh, emotionally resonant, and distinctly of Los Angeles,’ Dromi says.
Wavelength’s Head of Film, Stacey Reiss, echoes Dromi’s sentiments, stating, ‘We loved Jessica’s vision for a narrative comedy mixed with documentary elements, and her determination to get it made no matter what. Being able to support that as an indie studio is a big part of who we are and what makes projects like this so meaningful.’
The film is currently in post-production at Wavelength’s Los Angeles campus. With its talented cast and crew, ‘I Want to Feel Fun’ is sure to be a standout in the world of indie cinema.
