UFC Fight Night: du Plessis vs. Usman – A Middleweight Showdown

A pair of champions in quite different circumstances will face off in the main event of Saturday’s UFC Fight Night in Oklahoma City. Dricus du Plessis, a middleweight title contender, will battle former welterweight champion Kamaru Usman in a highly anticipated showdown.

Usman, who is making the move to middleweight, has one previous fight in the division. He stepped in on short notice to face Khamzat Chimaev in a losing effort in 2023. The loss to Chimaev was Usman’s third consecutive defeat. He has since rebounded with a win over Joaquin Buckley in June 2025, his only fight since the Chimaev loss.

Du Plessis, on the other hand, has been on a roll with nine straight victories after joining the UFC roster. The final three of those wins were in middleweight title fights against Sean Strickland (twice) and Israel Adesanya. In his most recent fight, du Plessis dropped the title in a decision loss to Chimaev. He now enters the Octagon looking to rebound from his first UFC defeat.

In the co-main event, a rising contender at middleweight will face off against a game veteran. Christian Leroy Duncan battles former title challenger Jared Cannonier. Duncan is on an incredible run of late with four straight wins since 2025. This represents his biggest test to date, however, as Cannonier has gone toe-to-toe with the division’s best for the last eight years.

Additionally, Chase Hooper looks to make a solid debut at lightweight when he takes on Mitch Ramirez. However, Hooper struggled on the scale when he missed weight by 1.5 pounds. The fight will proceed with Hooper forfeiting 20% of his purse.
