As a lifelong Disneyland devotee, I had always been skeptical of the grandeur and scale of Disney World. With six parks and dozens of resorts, it felt like a logistics marathon, especially for a West Coast family like mine. But our trip to Disney World was a game-changer, and I’m excited to share our journey through the parks with you.

Our first day at the Magic Kingdom was a whirlwind experience. We arrived at the park early, but not early enough to make it to the coveted ‘rope drop’ experience. Rope drop refers to the early years of Disneyland, when employees would literally drop a rope to open the park for the day. Today, it means getting to the park at least 15 to 30 minutes before opening time to beat the crowds. We didn’t quite make it, but we still had a blast. We rode some of the classic attractions like Pirates of the Caribbean and the Seven Dwarfs Mine Train, and even managed to snag a few snacks and drinks along the way.

But the real magic happened at dusk, when the park transformed into a twinkling wonderland. The Seven Dwarfs Mine Train roller coaster was even more thrilling in the darkness, and the fireworks display was the perfect ending to our first day at the Magic Kingdom.

Epcot: A World’s Fair That’s Never Ended
Our next stop was Epcot, a park that I had always thought was a bit sleepier than the others. But I was pleasantly surprised by the sheer scope and wonder of the park. From the Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind ride to the World Showcase, Epcot is a surreal journey through other cultures and a place that’s optimistic about the future.
One of the highlights of our day at Epcot was ‘drinking around the world,’ an unofficial sport in which adults ‘travel’ through the World Showcase, imbibing traditional drinks and snacks from around the world. We didn’t quite participate like some of the adults around us, but we did manage to sneak in a few margaritas and some excellent guacamole at the La Cava del Tequila bar.
But the real magic of Epcot happened when the skies opened up and it started pouring rain. We huddled under a nearby awning, laughing and joking with the other guests, and waiting for the storm to pass. It was a truly theatrical downpour, and one that I’ll never forget.
Hollywood Studios: The Most Technically Advanced Park
Our last day at Disney World was spent at Hollywood Studios, a park that’s known for its technically advanced and thrilling rides. We finally achieved what felt unattainable: rope drop. We rode the Slinky Dog Dash roller coaster before it became a 110-minute wait for the rest of the day, and even managed to squeeze in a few other attractions like the Twilight Zone Tower of Terror and the Star Wars: Rise of the Resistance ride.
But the real highlight of our day at Hollywood Studios was Oga’s Cantina, a bar that felt like an outpost in a lawless galaxy. We sipped on mocktails and enjoyed the lively music and atmosphere, and even managed to grab a few photos with the Disney photographer.
The Magic of Disney World
As I reflect on our journey through the parks, I’m struck by the sheer magic of Disney World. From the classic attractions to the cutting-edge technology and immersive experiences, there’s something for everyone at this incredible resort. And while it may be a bit overwhelming at first, the key to making the most of your Disney World experience is to be flexible, to be willing to try new things, and to be open to the wonder and magic of it all.
