Tragic Loss in the NFL Community

Former NFL guard Jordan Devey, a Super Bowl champion and Utah native, has passed away at the age of 38. According to a GoFundMe established by his family, Devey’s death was a result of suicide.

Devey’s family is currently navigating a difficult and heartbreaking time, as they try to come to terms with the loss of their loved one. In a statement on the GoFundMe page, the family expressed their gratitude for the outpouring of support they have received.

‘Tragically, Jordan took his own life, leaving his family to navigate an incredibly difficult and heartbreaking time,’ the statement reads.

Devey’s mother, Leslie, spoke with Fox 13 in Salt Lake City about her son’s passing. She revealed that the family believes he ‘possibly suffered from CTE,’ a neurodegenerative disease that affects many former NFL players. However, due to the nature of Devey’s death, the family will not be able to test for the disease.

Devey’s wife, Lindsay, paid tribute to her husband on social media, sharing a photo of him in his hospital bed. The post read: ‘We have filled the walls of our homes and hearts with countless memories, joys, struggles, and triumphs. We brought 4 beautiful children into this world that have your eyes, freckles, and compassion. You were our hero and our hearts ache in your absence. We love you. We miss you. And as you said in your last words to me, ‘we’ll talk soon.’

Devey began his NFL career in 2013, signing with the Baltimore Ravens as an undrafted free agent out of Memphis. He later joined the New England Patriots’ practice squad in September 2013 and went on to play for the San Francisco 49ers, Kansas City Chiefs, Las Vegas Raiders, and Buffalo Bills.

Throughout his career, Devey appeared in 44 regular-season games with 21 starts. His most notable achievement was playing in Super Bowl XLIX with the New England Patriots, who went on to win the championship.

Devey’s death is a sobering reminder of the risks and challenges faced by former NFL players. The NFL has been working to address these issues, providing support and resources to players who may be struggling with CTE or other health concerns.
