Ricky Pearsall’s Injury Strands Him for the Season
The San Francisco 49ers have placed receiver Ricky Pearsall on season-ending injured reserve due to a lingering PCL injury. The decision was made after consulting multiple doctors, including team physician Tim McAdams. Pearsall initially sustained the injury in Week 4 of the 2025 season during a loss to the Jaguars, forcing him to miss all or parts of 10 games.
According to general manager John Lynch, Pearsall will undergo season-ending surgery in the next couple of weeks. The recovery timeline for Pearsall’s injury is estimated to be six to 12 months. This setback marks another challenge for the 49ers, who have struggled with injuries in recent years.
Pearsall’s Career Marred by Obstacles
Ricky Pearsall was the 31st overall pick in the 2024 NFL Draft. His career has been marked by several obstacles, including a gunshot wound to the chest before the start of his rookie season. Pearsall was placed on the reserve/NFI list until October 19, 2024. In his rookie season, he caught 31 of 46 targets for 400 yards and three touchdowns.
Last year, Pearsall’s knee injury limited him to nine games. He caught 36 of 53 targets for 528 yards and one touchdown in San Francisco’s season-ending loss to the Eagles in the NFC wild card round.
The 49ers have dealt with a significant number of injuries in recent years, including last season’s issues with tight end George Kittle, linebacker Fred Warner, pass rusher Nick Bosa, and quarterback Brock Purdy. In an effort to address the team’s injury rate, the 49ers recently looked into whether excessive exposure to electromagnetic force (EMF) was contributing to the problem.
Deebo Samuel Returns to the 49ers
Despite Pearsall’s injury, the 49ers have found some optimism in the return of former All-Pro wideout Deebo Samuel. Samuel re-signed with the team after spending the 2025 season with the Commanders. He played a key role on the 49ers’ NFC championship-winning squads in 2019 and 2023.
General manager John Lynch praised Samuel’s return, saying, ‘Deebo has been, at times, one of the better players in football.’ Lynch also noted that the team began discussing Samuel’s return in earnest about a month ago, and they were thrilled to have him back on board.
