SpaceX Sees Significant Revenue Growth
SpaceX, the renowned space exploration and satellite internet company, has reported a significant increase in revenue for the second quarter of 2026. According to the company’s first quarterly earnings report since going public, total sales grew from $4 billion in the second quarter of 2025 to $7.8 billion in Q2 2026, representing a jump of 92%. This substantial growth can be attributed to the expansion of the company’s Starlink satellite internet service and the rental of computing power to Anthropic and Google.
The Starlink revenue grew by $1.7 billion, while the AI division contributed nearly $2 billion of the growth. The company’s AI division, formerly known as xAI, has been trying to catch up with leading labs like OpenAI and Anthropic. However, it has faced challenges in the past, including scandals surrounding its Grok chatbot and the generation of child sexual abuse material.
To address these issues, SpaceX pivoted much of the capacity built out in two data centers in and near Memphis, Tennessee, to be rented out to customers like Anthropic and Google. The incremental revenue from these new hosting deals generated high incremental EBITDA margins as the company monetized available compute capacity.
SpaceX chief financial officer Bret Johnsen stated that the company has an additional $6.7 billion of cloud services revenue under contract, which will begin ramping up starting in October of this year. He also expressed confidence that once the company fully integrates AI startup Cursor, it will reach a $100 billion annualized revenue run-rate by the end of this year.
The company’s market cap has seen significant fluctuations since its IPO. It briefly passed Amazon and nearly equalled Microsoft in the first few days of trading but has since plummeted below the IPO price of $135 per share. The shares closed at just over $125 on Tuesday but sank as much as 8% in after-hours trading.
SpaceX’s successful post-IPO bond sale has left the company with a $100 billion war chest, providing it with the financial resources to pursue its ambitious plans. The company’s ability to adapt and pivot in response to challenges is a testament to its resilience and innovative spirit.
