‘Ted Lasso’s Cristó Fernández Embarks on Professional Soccer Journey with El Paso Locomotive FC

Cristó Fernández, the talented soccer player from the hit Apple TV+ series ‘Ted Lasso’, has made his professional debut with El Paso Locomotive FC in the United Soccer League Cup. The second division team took on New Mexico United in a match that saw the Texas team lose 2-0.

Fernández, who played as a substitute for forward Rubio Rubín in the 79th minute, showcased his skills on the field amidst a sea of over 5,000 enthusiastic fans at Southwest University Park. This remarkable achievement marks a significant milestone in Fernández’s journey, bringing his passion for soccer to life.

Having previously played with Tecos FC at the youth level, Fernández’s path to professional soccer was temporarily hindered by an injury. However, this setback did not deter him from pursuing his dream. In May, he signed with El Paso Locomotive FC following a two-month trial, marking the beginning of a new chapter in his soccer career.

Reflecting on his experience, Fernández expressed his gratitude to El Paso Locomotive FC, stating, “Fútbol has always been a huge part of my life and identity, and no matter where life has taken me, the dream of competing professionally never truly left my heart.” He continued, “This journey back to professional fútbol soccer is about believing in yourself, taking risks, and continuing to chase your dreams no matter how unexpected the path may be. Because as we say in Mexico: hay que seguirle echando ganas (let’s keep giving it our all). Siempre agradecido con Dios, mi familia y amistades por creer en mí. Maybe I’m just a crazy man with crazy dreams… so being here with the ‘Locos’ actually makes perfect sense. ¡Vamos Locos!”

As Fernández embarks on his first season with the Locos, fans are eagerly awaiting the possibility of seeing him reprise his role as the charismatic and passionate striker Dani Rojas in Season 4 of ‘Ted Lasso’, which is set to premiere on Apple TV+ on August 5. While the storyline has shifted its focus to a women’s team, there is a possibility that Fernández and some of his on-screen teammates may make guest appearances.
