Amazon MGM Studios Continues to Build International Theatrical Team with Key Hire

Amazon MGM Studios is continuing to build its international theatrical team with the recent hire of Chris Besseling as the new Head of Theatrical Marketing, U.K. & Ireland. This move is part of the studio’s efforts to strengthen its presence in key overseas markets and further establish its position as a major player in the global film industry.

Besseling will be based in London and will report directly to Head of International Theatrical Marketing, Charlie Coleman. In the key UK market, he will partner with Scott Sargeant, Head of Theatrical Distribution, UK & Ireland. This partnership is expected to play a crucial role in driving the studio’s theatrical distribution efforts in the region.

In a note to staff, Coleman described Besseling as a ‘proven marketing leader’ and a ‘superb addition’ in ‘one of the most competitive geographies in which we’ll be operating.’ Besseling brings with him over 20 years of experience in the film industry, having previously worked at eOne, Pathé, and True Brit. During his tenure at these companies, he helped launch over 200 films in the UK, spearheading campaigns for movies such as 1917, Suffragette, Green Book, Selma, The Death Of Stalin, Stan & Ollie, I, Tonya, and Marching Powder.

With Besseling on board, Amazon MGM Studios is poised to make a significant impact in the UK film market. The studio’s revamped international theatrical operation is expected to have a range of solid choices available, thanks to its active acquisition of foreign rights at markets and in-house productions. This move is expected to be a shot in the arm for the UK film market, with the studio’s return as a theatrical player likely to have a positive impact on the industry as a whole.

The hire of Besseling is just the latest in a series of moves by Amazon MGM Studios to build its international theatrical team. The studio is understood to be filling other leadership positions in key overseas territories as it scales its distribution efforts. This expansion is expected to have a significant impact on the global film industry, with Amazon MGM Studios poised to become a major player in the years to come.

As the studio continues to build its international theatrical team, it is clear that Amazon MGM Studios is committed to establishing itself as a major player in the global film industry. With the hire of Chris Besseling, the studio is taking a significant step towards achieving this goal, and it will be interesting to see how this move impacts the industry in the years to come.

Amazon MGM Studios is not the only company looking to make a significant impact in the UK film market. Neon, a US-based film distributor, is reportedly looking to set up a presence in the territory, which could further drive competition in the market. This increased competition is expected to be beneficial for the industry as a whole, with a range of new and innovative films likely to be released in the coming years.
