At the Apple TV Hall H panel at San Diego Comic-Con 2026, the cast and creators of the breakout hit series Widow’s Bay shared their thoughts on the show’s success, including 19 recent Emmy nominations.

Series creator Katie Dippold began by praising the cast, saying, ‘Dale, I think you had the best reaction.’ Dale Dickey, who earned an Emmy nomination for Supporting Actress as Rosemary, recalled her initial reaction to the show’s success: ‘Dear God in heaven, what the hell just happened.’

The panel included Dippold, Dickey, director Hiro Murai, Stephen Root (Wyck), Jeff Hiller (Dale), K Callan (Ruth), Kevin Carroll (Bashir), and Kingston Rooney Southwick (Evan).

When asked about the show’s unique blend of horror and comedy, Root replied, ‘The tone for the show is everything.’ He emphasized that if the audience gets the tone right, they’ll understand the show.

Hiller joked about the importance of maintaining the show’s sensibility, saying, ‘I feel like every time I did something wrong, they’d say don’t do that, and that was a good guardrail.’

Murai shared his initial conviction about the show, saying, ‘I would stay at that haunted inn. I would want to get a coffee at that diner.’ He praised the show’s ability to balance the eerie atmosphere with a sense of coziness.

The cast discussed their characters, with Root highlighting his portrayal of the complex and kind-hearted Wyck. Carroll talked about his character, Bashir, saying, ‘Does he want to be sheriff of the island? I think so.’ He emphasized Bashir’s desire to protect his child and the island.

Callan revealed that she had no idea about Ruth’s journey in the show, saying, ‘I got to read the pilot and that was it.’ She praised the creators for trusting her with the character’s development.

Southwick discussed the importance of the rocky father-son relationship between Evan and Matthew Rhys’ Tom, saying, ‘The relationship is so great because we keep a lot of secrets from each other.’

Toward the end of the panel, Dickey recreated a now-iconic scene where Rosemary goes over her genealogical findings, and the cast discussed their favorite moments from the show.

The Apple TV panel also included announcements for upcoming shows, including the second season of Dark Matter and the new Ryan Reynolds and Kenneth Branagh movie Mayday.
