The highly anticipated second season of Dexter: Resurrection has been shrouded in mystery, but the first official look at the new season has finally been released, and it seems like Dexter Morgan will be reckoning with his past once again.

Joey Quinn Returns

Paramount has released a series of images from the upcoming season, which tease a lot of new stressful situations for Dexter. The biggest tease is an image that reveals the return of Joey Quinn, played by Desmond Harrington, who reprised his role as Quinn in the last season for a brief cameo. Quinn’s character was aware that Angel Batista was digging into something big, but was never clued in to the specifics. Now that Batista is dead, it seems likely that Quinn will turn up in New York looking for answers.

While some fans have long theorized that Quinn knows Dexter is a killer and has turned a blind eye to it for years, one has to imagine that he wouldn’t take kindly to finding out Dexter is at least partially responsible for the deaths of Batista and Deb, for whom Quinn was harboring romantic feelings. How will the show resolve all of this, though? It would be, admittedly, a bit lame if it were a rehash of what happened with Batista last season. So long as the writers are willing to take big swings and avoid playing it safe, this has serious potential to be a really thrilling conflict for Dexter.

Uma Thurman’s Character Returns

The second big takeaway from these images is that Uma Thurman’s character, Charley, will return, and may even have some kind of romantic encounter with Dexter. The two can be seen gently holding hands while sipping wine at a nice dinner. The character had largely discarded her loyalties to Leon Prater last season, but didn’t seem to have much affection for Dexter himself. Perhaps there’s more than meets the eye, but it is interesting to see a former antagonist return like this.

Charley won’t be the only antagonist returning this season either, but the other one is a bit of a spoiler. Fans will have to wait and see who else will be joining the cast, but it’s clear that the new season will be filled with plenty of twists and turns.

Harrison Joins the NYPD

Finally, in direct contrast to Dexter’s murderous lifestyle, Harrison has joined the New York police department. He appears to be following in his family’s footsteps, though more explicitly his aunt Deb, who was a cop while Dexter was part of the forensics team. This shouldn’t come as a massive surprise, as Harrison expressed interest in this career path and was eyeing school for it. However, it will be interesting to see what kind of conflicts this could create between the serial killer father and his law-abiding son… or maybe, they’ll become allies.

All in all, it looks like fans are in for another suspenseful, stressful, and compelling season of Dexter. We have yet to get official first looks at the villains, which will be played by Brian Cox, Dan Stevens, Gabriel Luna, and others, but we may see more when the first trailer is released in the coming months.

Dexter: Resurrection Season 2 will release on Paramount+ this fall.
