US Strikes Iran in Response to Latest Missile Attacks
The United States has launched a new wave of strikes against Iran, bringing an end to a brief four-day lull in fighting between the two countries.
According to a statement released by the US Central Command (CENTCOM), the strikes began at 8 p.m. EDT on Wednesday and were described as a ‘powerful response to yesterday’s attempted Iranian attacks on US forces based in the Middle East.’
CENTCOM did not disclose the targets of the strikes, but confirmed that all five ballistic missiles fired by Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) were intercepted on Wednesday local time.
Iran’s IRGC claimed the attack was in response to ‘unspecified threats by US officials and illegal interventions against our interests,’ which must stop, according to a statement released by the group.
The US and Saudi Arabia have also conducted joint strikes against Iran-backed proxies in Iraq, which they said had targeted Saudi energy infrastructure over the last few days.
US President Donald Trump said earlier on Wednesday that the US military would retaliate against Iran, stating, ‘We’re going to be hitting them very hard because it’s our turn.’
He added, ‘They know it’s coming. They’re asking us not to do it, but, you know, they tried shooting at us last night.’
The latest strikes are the first announced US attacks specifically targeting Iran since the previous wave ended on Friday.
In a joint statement, the US and Saudi Arabia condemned Iran’s actions and vowed to take further action against the country’s proxies in the region.
Iran’s actions have been widely condemned by the international community, with many countries calling for a peaceful resolution to the conflict.
However, the situation remains volatile, with both sides showing no signs of backing down.
The US has also been working with its allies in the region to strengthen its military presence and improve its capabilities to counter Iran’s aggression.
The US military has been working closely with its partners in the region to share intelligence and coordinate their efforts to counter Iran’s influence in the region.
The latest developments come as the US and Iran continue to engage in a war of words, with both sides accusing each other of aggression and threatening further action.
As tensions continue to escalate, the international community is watching the situation closely, hoping for a peaceful resolution to the conflict.
