Israeli Forces Persist in Gaza Attacks Despite Framework Agreement

The situation in Gaza remains dire, with Israeli forces continuing their attacks on the enclave despite a framework agreement reached last week. The agreement, brokered by the Board of Peace, aimed to disarm Hamas and other militant groups in Gaza, with the condition that Israel withdraw its troops from the area.

Nickolay Mladenov, the director general of the Board of Peace, expressed his disappointment in a statement, saying that his team is working around the clock to de-escalate the situation and facilitate the full implementation of the president’s plan. He emphasized the importance of making best efforts to achieve lasting peace in the region.

Rejection of Framework Agreement

However, Israel has all but formally rejected the framework agreement. National Security Minister Itamar Ben-Gvir, an ultranationalist and far-right politician, called the agreement ‘unacceptable to Israel.’ He stated that the blood of every Hamas member is on their own head, implying that targeted killings of Hamas members should continue.

Ben-Gvir’s statement was echoed by Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, who has been accused of seeking to displace Palestinians from their homes and obstructing any effort to establish lasting peace in the region. The Turkish Ministry of Foreign Affairs condemned Netanyahu’s actions, saying that they destabilize the already fragile regional balance and undermine the initiatives of mediating countries, particularly the USA.

The Ministry also accused Netanyahu of seeking to turn the Middle East into a zone of perpetual conflict. It called on the international community to adopt a more determined, consistent, and firm stance against Netanyahu’s expansionist and militarist mindset.

Humanitarian Crisis in Gaza

The attacks on Gaza have resulted in a devastating humanitarian crisis, with at least 14 Palestinians killed, including four children, over Sunday alone. The Palestinian news agency WAFA reported that more than 30 civilians were killed in Israeli attacks on health facilities following the framework’s announcement.

The situation in Gaza has been exacerbated by the ongoing conflict, with the enclave’s infrastructure severely damaged. United Nations estimates show that more than 81% of all buildings and structures in Gaza have been either damaged or destroyed.

U.N. agencies have estimated that around $70 billion is needed to reconstruct the enclave, which measures about 25.4 miles long and between 2.7 and 7.5 miles wide along the Mediterranean.

Mohammad Dahlan, an exiled Palestinian politician involved in negotiations on the framework, expressed his concern about Netanyahu’s actions. He stated that he was aware that Netanyahu would try to ‘kill the opportunity that President Donald Trump worked on in collaboration with Egypt, Qatar, and Turkey.’

Dahlan emphasized the importance of establishing lasting peace in the region, saying that the international community must take a firm stance against Netanyahu’s actions.

Trump’s Board of Peace, a coalition of 28 countries, including Israel, has been working towards the stabilization and reconstruction of Gaza. The Board is tied to a U.N.-backed, 20-point plan for the stabilization and reconstruction of Gaza, which has been devastated by the war.

The situation in Gaza remains dire, with the international community facing a moral obligation to intervene and prevent further suffering.
