Wonder Man Showrunner Shares Thoughts on Season 2 Cancellation

Andrew Guest, the showrunner of the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) spinoff series Wonder Man, has spoken out about the show’s cancellation. In a recent TikTok video, Guest addressed the fans’ concerns and clarified the circumstances surrounding the show’s abrupt demise.

Guest confirmed that ‘contracts were signed’ and ‘schedules were cleared’ before Marvel made the decision to cancel Season 2. This revelation has sparked debate among fans, with many expressing their disappointment and shock at the news.

In his TikTok video, Guest stated, ‘I just want to say I’ve been listening. I appreciate you all. I feel how you all feel, and I just want to clear up what I can here: This is not a marketing stunt, there is no movie in the works, and [director Destin Daniel Cretton’s] schedule РђЊ and no one’s schedule РђЊ was an issue.’

Marvel had previously announced that Wonder Man would return for Season 2 in March, but later revealed that they had U-turned on that decision. Guest explained that he, Cretton, and the cast ‘loved making the show’ and ‘felt passionately about continuing to do it.’ However, Marvel had other plans, and the show was ultimately canceled.

Guest also revealed that the first episode of Season 2 had been completed, and an outline for the remainder of the season had been drafted. The showrunner expressed his disappointment at the cancellation, stating that the crew was ‘just as shocked’ as the fans were.

Arian Moayed, who reprised his MCU role as Agent Cleary for the show, chimed in on the discourse surrounding the cancellation. In a statement on Instagram, Moayed expressed his disappointment, saying, ‘we all heard about the news last week.’ He praised Guest’s writing, calling it ‘scalpel-esque’ and expressing hope that it would be ‘studied and celebrated for years to come.’

Wonder Man may not have garnered the eyes necessary to warrant a second season from Disney and Marvel’s perspective, but social media feeds following its demise have been filled by fans who thought otherwise. Those who did watch the show generally really enjoyed it, with its first season scoring a 91% critic score and 87% audience score on review aggregator Rotten Tomatoes’ website. IGN gave Season 1 an 8/10 review, calling it a ‘a smaller, low-stakes MCU adventure that thrives on the strength of Yahya Abdul-Mateen II and Ben Kingsley’s performances.’

Abdul-Mateen was one of the first to share his thoughts on the end of Wonder Man, thanking fans with his own Instagram post. Guest had shared thoughts earlier in the week, too, but used his TikTok video as an opportunity to elaborate.

‘I appreciate everybody getting out there and letting your voices be heard about how you feel about this,’ Guest continued. ‘I think there’s important conversations being had online about the kind of stories that we’re prioritizing and the kind of shows platforms want to make.’

Guest signed off, saying he hopes Emmy voters are keeping Abdul-Mateen in mind come awards season. The actor was nominated for Lead Actor in a Comedy Series for the 2026 show.
