20th Century Studios Announces Final Cast Members for ‘Romy and Michele’ Sequel

20th Century Studios has finalized the cast for its highly anticipated sequel to the cult classic comedy ‘Romy and Michele’s High School Reunion.’ The latest additions to the star-studded ensemble are Anna Baryshnikov and Sofia Wylie.

Anna Baryshnikov, known for her critically acclaimed role in the SXSW comedy ‘Idiotka,’ will join the cast alongside Sofia Wylie, who has previously worked with director Tim Federle on Disney+’s ‘High School Musical: The Musical: The Series.’

Returning Cast Members

The sequel, which began shooting in Los Angeles in June, will feature a talented ensemble of returning cast members, including Lisa Kudrow and Mira Sorvino as the lead characters, Romy and Michele. Other returning cast members include Alan Cumming, Janeane Garofalo, Camryn Manheim, and Julia Campbell.

The new cast members will join a talented group of actors, including Keegan-Michael Key, Rob Huebel, Breckin Meyer, Patrick Warburton, and Nathan Lee Graham, who will also be reprising their roles in the sequel.

Director and Production Team

Director Tim Federle will be working from a script by Robin Schiff, who penned the original 1997 film. Federle is also producing the sequel alongside the original film’s Laurence Mark, with Barry Kemp, Sorvino, Kudrow, and Schiff exec producing, Kimberly McCullough co-producing, and Sarah Shepard overseeing for 20th.

Anna Baryshnikov and Sofia Wylie’s Backgrounds

Anna Baryshnikov has a diverse filmography, including starring roles in A24’s ‘Love Lies Bleeding’ and Kenneth Lonergan’s Oscar-winning ‘Manchester by the Sea.’ She has also played a recurring role in Apple’s ‘Cape Fear’ TV series and will be seen in the upcoming ski resort drama ‘Queenstown,’ marking Netflix’s first New Zealand original.

Sofia Wylie has appeared in various films and TV shows, including ‘The Map That Leads to You’ and ‘The School for Good and Evil.’ She will next be seen as one of the leads in Netflix’s coming-of-age thriller series ‘The Body,’ from Quinn Shephard.

Sequel Details

The sequel to ‘Romy and Michele’s High School Reunion’ is currently in production and is set to stream as a Hulu Original in the U.S. No official release date has been announced, but fans of the original film can expect a highly anticipated and entertaining sequel.
