Hugh Jackman to Play Wolverine Until He’s 90

More than 25 years after originating the live-action portrayal of Logan/Wolverine in X-Men (2000), Hugh Jackman is still deeply invested in the character. In a recent interview with Project Big Screen, the Oscar-nominated actor revealed his plans to continue playing the iconic role for as long as Marvel Studios will allow it.

When asked how long he intends to keep playing Wolverine, Jackman replied, ‘I’m 57. I’m doing it till I’m 90.’ He emphasized the importance of not influencing his successor’s take on the character, stating, ‘I’ll do a little time capsule for them. I’m not going to say anything to whoever plays him, ’cause no one said anything to me, which I really am thrilled about.’

Jackman’s decision to keep his thoughts on the character’s future to himself is a testament to the respect he has for the legacy he’s helped create. He went on to explain that he had not read the comics before taking on the role, which allowed him to approach it with a fresh perspective. Over the years, Jackman has learned a great deal about the character and has developed his own unique take on Wolverine.

Jackman’s extensive experience with the character is evident in his numerous performances, including X2 (2003), X-Men: The Last Stand (2006), X-Men Origins: Wolverine (2009), X-Men: First Class (2011), The Wolverine (2013), X-Men: Days of Future Past (2014), X-Men: Apocalypse (2016), Logan (2017), Deadpool 2 (2018), and Deadpool & Wolverine (2024). His dedication to the role has earned him a special place in the hearts of fans worldwide.

The upcoming Avengers: Doomsday, premiering December 18, 2026, will feature a star-studded cast, including Jackman’s franchise co-stars Patrick Stewart (Professor X), Ian McKellen (Magneto), Rebecca Romijn (Mystique), James Marsden (Cyclops), Alan Cumming (Nightcrawler), and Kelsey Grammer (Beast), who will all reprise their roles.

Director Jake Schreier, who is helming Marvel Studios’ X-Men reboot, recently gave an update on the project. ‘I can’t say anything about it, but we’ve started work on X-Men, and that’s obviously very, very exciting,’ he told Empire in August. With the reboot underway, fans are eagerly awaiting the next chapter in the X-Men saga.
