Tom Holland Opens Up About His Experience Working with Christopher Nolan on ‘The Odyssey’
Tom Holland, the talented young actor known for his roles in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, has shared his thoughts on working with the renowned director Christopher Nolan on their latest project, ‘The Odyssey’. The film, which is set to premiere on July 17, marks a significant milestone in the history of filmmaking, as it is the first movie to be shot entirely with Imax cameras.
In a recent interview with Fandango, Holland spoke candidly about his experience working with Nolan and the challenges he faced while filming ‘The Odyssey’. According to Holland, the first day on set was particularly daunting, as he struggled to understand the limitations of the Imax cameras. He revealed that he was unaware that the cameras only ran for three minutes at a time, which led to frequent interruptions in the filming process.
‘Working with the Imax cameras for the first time is an experience,’ Holland said. ‘It is unlike anything I have ever seen before, and I didn’t know that it only ran for three minutes. So, I remember you would continue cutting, and I was with Jon [Bernthal] like, ‘Why does he keep cutting? Why does he keep doing that?”
Holland’s confusion was understandable, given the unique nature of the Imax cameras. The cameras, which are capable of capturing stunning visuals, have a limited runtime, which can make it challenging for filmmakers to work with them. However, Nolan’s experience and expertise in working with Imax cameras have helped to overcome these challenges, resulting in a film that is truly a masterpiece of cinematic storytelling.
Nolan’s passion for using Imax cameras in his films is evident in ‘The Odyssey’. He has used the cameras in several of his previous projects, including ‘Oppenheimer’, ‘Tenet’, ‘Dunkirk’, ‘Interstellar’, ‘The Dark Knight Rises’, ‘Inception’, and ‘The Dark Knight’. ‘One of the great satisfactions of my career has been being part of an evolutionary process of a [filmmaking] system,’ Nolan said of his experience working with Imax cameras. ‘My excitement for having finished the film entirely in Imax is: what other filmmakers might want to do that. I just want to go see somebody else’s film when they do it this way.’
