The Bahamas Musicians and Entertainers Union has confirmed that musicians and a DJ were among the 10 people killed in a plane crash in the Bahamas. The tragic incident occurred on the island of North Andros, located just west of Nassau, the archipelago’s capital.

Flight Suspension and Investigation

The government has temporarily grounded Flamingo Air flights as a precautionary measure while officials investigate the cause of the crash. According to the Ministry of Energy, Utilities and Aviation, the suspension of Flamingo Air’s air operator certificate is a result of two safety incidents that occurred on the same day.

The first incident involved a Flamingo Air plane that was en route to Mayaguana when the pilot reported a concern and turned back to Nassau. After the plane landed and the passengers deboarded, the plane caught fire, according to Minister JoBeth Coleby-Davis. That incident is also under investigation.

Victims Identified

The Bahamas Musicians and Entertainers Union has identified some of the victims as members of The Pond Band and a DJ. The union praised the deceased for their passion, dedication, and artistry, which touched many lives and enriched the cultural fabric of the Bahamas.

“Among the dearly departed are some of the talented and vibrant members of our entertainment community,” the union said in a statement on X. “Their passion, dedication, and artistry touched so many lives and helped to enrich the cultural fabric of The Bahamas.”

The plane had departed Lynden Pindling International Airport in Nassau and was headed to San Andros when it crashed, according to the Bahamian Aircraft Accident Investigation Authority.

Government Response

The Ministry of Energy, Utilities and Aviation has assured the public that the suspension of Flamingo Air’s air operator certificate is a precautionary measure and not a definitive conclusion. The ministry has pledged to investigate the cause of the crash and take necessary action to ensure the safety of air travelers in the Bahamas.

As the investigation continues, the government has expressed condolences to the families of the victims and has offered support to the entertainment community in the Bahamas.

The crash has sent shockwaves through the entertainment industry in the Bahamas, with many artists and musicians expressing their condolences on social media.
