The Odyssey Continues to Dominate the Global Box Office
Christopher Nolan’s epic film, The Odyssey, has once again taken the top spot at the global box office, with an impressive opening weekend of $263.7M. The film, which has been widely praised for its visually stunning and immersive storytelling, has set a new record for Nolan’s opening weekend, both in North America and internationally.
Breaking down the numbers, The Odyssey grossed $123.5M in North America, while internationally, it brought in a staggering $140.2M from 73 territories. These figures cement Nolan’s status as one of the most successful filmmakers in the industry.
China Takes Center Stage with Three Blockbusters
However, it’s not all about The Odyssey. China has made a significant impact on the global box office with three of its own blockbusters making it to the top 10. Stephen Chow’s Kung Fu Soccer takes the second spot, with a second frame in China of $73.7M and a running cume of $214.3M.
Two other local titles, All Wishes Come True and A Part of Me, also made it to the top 10, with the former grossing $30.6M in its second weekend and the latter bringing in $13.6M in its opening weekend.
Toy Story 5 Nears $1 Billion at the Global Box Office
Disney’s Toy Story 5 is another film that’s making waves at the global box office. With a global weekend of $43.7M, the film has brought its total to $957.3M, making it ever so close to becoming the third movie this year to pass $1 billion worldwide.
Broken down by territory, Toy Story 5 has a running domestic total of $429.87M, making it the highest-grossing movie in North America YTD. It also holds the top spot in Japan, Argentina, and Mexico, while the UK and Ireland follow closely behind.
Other notable films at the global box office include Minions and Monsters, which took the fifth spot with a global weekend of $42.1M, and Disney’s live-action Moana, which brought in $42.9M in its second weekend.
The Rest of the Top 10
Evil Dead Burn, directed by Fede Alvarez, took the ninth spot with a global weekend of $12.8M, while Focus Features’ Obsession refused to leave the top 10 with an $8.1M global weekend.
A24’s The Invite from Olivia Wilde rounded out the top 10 with a reported $12M running foreign cume and $26.4M around the globe in its fourth weekend.
