French film company Pathé has made a significant move in the European market by acquiring a 50% stake in Benelux distributor The Searchers. This strategic partnership will enable Pathé to become active in film distribution in the Benelux territory, similar to its distribution operations in France and Switzerland.

The Searchers, an Antwerp and Amsterdam-based company, has a reputation for acquiring elevated English-language films and has strong relationships with prominent distributors like Rocket Science, Black Bear, The Veterans, and Neon. The company will continue to work with these types of films while also handling Pathé titles, starting with its recent release of Pathé’s ambitious Charles de Gaulle duology: De Gaulle: Tilting Iron and De Gaulle: The Sovereign Edge.

The partnership will enrich The Searchers’ slate and enable the company to bring films produced by Pathé Films to a larger audience. According to Pathé Chairman Jérôme Seydoux, the strategic investment will enable the company to further strengthen its offerings in the Netherlands and Belgium.

The expansion into distribution in Benelux comes at a busy time for Pathé, following its 2025 deal with French-Lebanese logistics tycoon Rodolphe Saadé. This deal saw his family holding company Merit France take a 20% stake in the studio. Pathé has also been ratcheting up its English-language production capabilities, alongside continuing to make French-language films.

The company has been working to strengthen its position in the industry, with the reopening of its film arm in the UK and the creation of Emotion Pictures, a joint venture with Vendôme Pictures aimed at making English-language features with broad appeal. Pathé’s commitment to expanding its activities in the Benelux territory is a significant step in its ongoing efforts to become a leading player in the global film industry.

The partnership between Pathé and The Searchers is a testament to the company’s ambition to deliver the best films and customer experiences. According to The Searchers’ co-founder and Managing Director Olivier van den Broeck, the partnership makes perfect sense, as Pathé is a legendary film company that embodies cinema in every fiber of its being.

With this partnership, Pathé is strengthening its position in the European market and further solidifying its commitment to the global film industry. The acquisition of a 50% stake in The Searchers is a significant step in Pathé’s ongoing efforts to become a leading player in the industry.
