The Entertainment Software Rating Board (ESRB) has revealed the mature content in Marvel’s Wolverine, the upcoming action-adventure game from Insomniac Games.

The ESRB rating warns that the game contains gore, intense violence, strong language, and at least a few scenes featuring ‘a character’s exposed buttocks.’

According to the full ESRB description, players can expect ‘partial nudity’ throughout the game, but it’s worth noting that the only examples of this may be one or two instances of on-screen butts.

The warning reads as follows: ‘A handful of sequences briefly depict a character’s exposed buttocks.’

It’s unclear which character’s rear end will be on full display, but fans can expect a more mature take on the classic comic book X-Men member.

Pre-release footage for the game has already promised an especially gory take on the character, with gameplay clips showing players ripping apart enemy soldiers and robots in frenetic combat.

The game’s ESRB rating also notes that it includes ‘in-game purchases’ and references to ‘drugs,’ including a character saying ‘it doubled my production of fentanyl.’

The words ‘f**k’ and ‘sh*t’ also appear in the game, further emphasizing the mature content.

Insomniac Games’ M-rated Superhero Experience

Marvel’s Wolverine is rated M for Mature 17+ by the ESRB, and it’s clear that the game’s developers are pushing the boundaries of what’s acceptable in a superhero game.

With its focus on intense violence, gore, and strong language, Marvel’s Wolverine is sure to be a departure from the more family-friendly games of the past.

The game’s release date is set for September 15, 2026, and it will be exclusive to the PlayStation 5.
