Warner Bros Korea Announces September Release Date for ‘The Intern’ Remake

Warner Bros Korea has set a September 16 release date for its highly anticipated remake of the 2013 hit comedy ‘The Intern,’ starring Korean acting legends Choi Min-sik and Han So-hee. The remake, directed by Kim Do-young, is an adaptation of the 2013 film of the same name, which grossed over $194 million worldwide and became a huge hit among audiences in Korea.

Choi Min-sik, known internationally for his roles in critically acclaimed Korean films such as ‘Oldboy,’ ‘The Admiral: Roaring Currents,’ and ‘Exhuma,’ will play the lead role of an older intern working at a fashion startup. Han So-hee, who gained international recognition for her roles in Netflix’s ‘Gyeongseong Creature’ and ‘Notes From The Last Row,’ will play the young fashion entrepreneur whose startup has become a huge success within three years of its launch.

The Korean remake of ‘The Intern’ is a joint production between Anthology Studio and Warner Bros Korea. The film’s director, Kim Do-young, is known for his critically acclaimed films such as ‘Kim Ji-young: Born 1982’ and ‘Once We Were Us,’ which is itself a remake of the Chinese film ‘Us And Them,’ directed by Rene Liu.

Warner Bros Korea also released a poster for the film, announcing the release date. The film is set to hit theaters on September 16, just ahead of Korea’s Chuseok holiday (September 24-26), which is one of the country’s peak box office periods.

The original ‘Intern’ film, directed by Nancy Meyers, was a huge commercial success, drawing a huge following among audiences in Korea. The film’s success can be attributed to its relatable storyline, well-developed characters, and the on-screen chemistry between its leads, Robert De Niro and Anne Hathaway.

However, there has been no update on this project since Padukone announced that she was stepping away from the acting role but would remain on board as a producer.
