Bangkok Pub Fire: 27 Lives Lost in Tragic Blaze
A devastating fire swept through a popular pub in Bangkok’s northern district, claiming the lives of at least 27 people and leaving many others injured. The fire, which broke out in the early hours of Monday morning, was reported to have engulfed the Na Ladprao pub in a matter of minutes, with eyewitnesses describing the scene as ‘apocalyptic’.
Footage shared online by first responders shows a massive blaze raging through the pub, with thick black smoke billowing into the sky and people desperately trying to flee the scene. The fire was reportedly brought under control by firefighters within 30 minutes, but the damage had already been done.
Thai Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul visited the scene of the disaster and confirmed that 27 people had lost their lives in the fire. He also revealed that several others had been taken to hospital with injuries, and that the cause of the fire was still under investigation.
According to eyewitness accounts, the fire started near the stage where a musician was performing, with the musician describing seeing smoke coming from a circuit breaker before the power went out and an explosion was heard. The thick smoke quickly filled the pub, making it difficult for people to escape.
Many of the victims were found in the restrooms at the back of the pub, Anutin added. The pub’s interior was left badly damaged, with charred tables and chairs visible in photos taken after the fire was extinguished.
The tragedy is a stark reminder of the dangers of fire and the importance of fire safety measures. In 2022, a similar tragedy occurred at a music pub in the eastern part of the country, resulting in the loss of 14 lives. A decade earlier, in 2009, a fire at the Santika nightclub in Bangkok’s capital killed 66 people and injured over 200.
The Thai government has promised to investigate the cause of the fire and to take steps to prevent such tragedies from occurring in the future. In the meantime, the families of the victims will be left to pick up the pieces and try to come to terms with their loss.
